The article I choose to use in my essay is Quoted in Andy Rowell, “Welcome to Wal-World: Wal-Mart's Inexhaustible March to Conquer the Globe,” The Multinational Monitor, Oct. 1, 2003, p. 13. This article is a pro and con about Walmart. I can use it for evidence in my argument or I can use it to find a good counter-argument. Becuase it has the pro and con I will be able to get a good look at both sides of the argument. It is also full of a lot if good facts that I can use as evidence. One fact that I can use is that walmart watches 45% of its workers quit every year and does nothing to change. Facts like this can really help my argument.

In the documentary "The High Cost Of Low Prices," it talks about how horrible walmart is. Some reasons why it is so bad is because it puts smaller businesses out of business and they don't treat their employees well. Although it was a good documentary, it was extremely biased which isn't a very good way to argue your point of view. It also appealed to people's emotions which is effective when talking about the low wages and discrimiation that employees of walmart face. At the same time appealing to emotion makes the film a lot less acedemic. At one point the flim blatenly calls a ceo of walmart the devil. Even with all its facts and statistics, this film would have been a better argument with out being biased and didnt appeal so much to emotion.

Critical Thinking

To me, critical thinking is taking something and dissecting it almost to find what is really going on and to really understand it. This helps you analyze the topic and develop new ideas. I definitely think that critical thinking can be taught. I think of it was science, once you find a new topic, to understand it more you need to get inside and dissect it to understand what is going on. You can teach people to look below the surface to what is going on on a deeper level.

Venice Beach

The public space that I choose for this writing assignment is Venice Beach. It is the ultimate California public space, it includes a beautiful beach, along with other entertainment. Entertainment such as restaurants, bars, nightclubs, theaters, shopping and art galleries. This public space lets people enjoy California to its fullest extent. Venice Beach offers everything in a public space. Many Californians enjoy this public space but is also welcome and visited by tourists. All kinds of people can enjoy this space. There are beach activities such as surfing and others such as shopping, dinning and looking at art galleries. Venice Beach is open to everyone and isn't exclusive to anyone in particular, but like many places in southern California, the homeless aren't exactly welcome. The purpose of this space is to be a casual and fun places for Californians and visiting families to come and enjoy the beach life. It offers everything you could want in a public space and isn't exclusive so you get the sense that everyone is welcome.

Writting Processes

Some writting processes that have been really helpfull to me are; brainstorming and outlining. Brainstorming is writting down everything you can think of that as to do with your subject not matter what it is, that means no censoring. This can help the writting process become a lot easier. With all the ideas to choose from, there is bound to be a good one that is perfect for what you want to write about. Outlining can make writing essays a lot easier. Before you actually sit down to write your essay, just quickly draft up everything that is going to be in each paragraph. Then, once you write it all you really have to do is go off your outline and add things. These are some writing processes that have really helped me out in the past.
